The “main story” on Monday’s “Daily Show” had host Trevor Noah in disbelief.
“You know, this is one of those moments, where I genuinely cannot believe that we’re living in real life,” he told viewers. “Donald Trump, who is the president of the United States got a call from his friend, Kanye West, to save a rapper (A$AP Rocky) from a Swedish prison. This sounds like a headline written by a newspaper on LSD.
“It’s just, like, the craziest (expletive) ever,” Noah continued. “What’s also insane – just by the way – is how powerful Kanye West is in this situation. It’s almost like he uses his MAGA hat like a magic lamp. He just, like, rubs it, and then Trump comes out, he’s like ‘What do you need?’ ”
Recapping the story for viewers, Noah said the “Sundress” artist has “spent almost three weeks in jail. Yeah, at this rate, if Sweden keeps him locked up any longer he’ll have to change the dollar sign in his name to a Euro.”
A$AP Rocky was in Sweden to perform at a music festival when he and his bodyguards were ordered to be held for two weeks after being detained two days earlier.
Videos published on social media, show a person being violently thrown onto the ground by the rapper. It was not clear who else was involved. A lawyer for the rapper has said it was self-defense.

To those who think Swedish jail isn’t so terrible, Noah joked: “You don’t have your freedom, and on top of that, they make you assemble all your own furniture. It’s heartless.”
At least the musician has Trump on his side, who said in a clip shown: “I personally don’t know A$AP Rocky, but I can tell you he has tremendous support from the African American community in this country, and when I say African American I think I can really say from everybody in this country because we’re all one.”
Following the clip, Noah was moved to do an impersonation of the president: “We’re all one, and anyone who doesn’t agree with that can go back to their (expletive) country. Send her back! Send her back!”

The Associated Press reported Monday that Swedish prosecutors have ceased their investigation of a man who they say was involved in a June 30 fight in downtown Stockholm.
Prosecutors must reach a decision on the investigation by Thursday, AP reports.
West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, thanked the president, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in a tweet shared last week.
“Thank you @realDonaldTrump , @SecPompeo, Jared Kushner & everyone involved with the efforts to Free ASAP Rocky & his two friends. Your commitment to justice reform is so appreciated,” she wrote.
Other celebrities including Sean “Diddy” Combs, Justin Bieber, Tyga and Jada Pinkett Smith have called for #JusticeForRocky, linking to a Change.org petition demanding his release.
