Wayne Rooney breaks silence over cheating claims after hotel pictures

Wayne Rooney has broken his silence after pictures of him emerged with a mystery woman in a hotel lobby.

In a statement, the footballer proclaimed his innocence.

He said: "Nothing happened between me and any girl on that night in Vancouver. I did not enter the lift alone with the girl pictured in the hotel foyer.

"The girl pictured in the club was simply one of many who innocently asked for autographs and pictures.

"This whole story was a smear against me. It is damaging to my family and not something I am prepared to put up with."

The new Derby player and coach Wayne was spotted with his wedding ring securely on his finger as he headed to practice on Tuesday.

The outing came after the pictures of him at the hotel emerged.

It had been reported that Wayne, 33, had headed back to the hotel with a mystery woman.

But now, he's furiously hit back at the reports.

Wayne, who is currently still in Washington DC playing for DC United, was said to have been confronted by wife Coleen after she arrived in the US.

And it was said she had demanded he return to the UK so they could save their marriage.

Wayne would face paying a penalty if he broke his contract before the end of the season, which is due to finish with DC's final match on October 7.

Wayne and Coleen, both 33, have overcome years of strife, fuelled by Wayne's partying ways.

When he was arrested for drink-driving back in September 2017 – in the company of party girl Laura Simpson – Coleen later admitted she came close to ending their marriage .

The couple are parents to four boys, Kai, nine, Klay, six, Kit, three, and 16-month-old Cass.

They recently celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary, and looked back on their highs and lows.

The couple tied the knot on June 12, 2008, and have been through an awful lot in their time.

Sharing a beautiful black and white picture of them together, Coleen wrote: "11 years married!! Happy anniversary @waynerooney. It’s been a journey …Ups and downs, highs and lows..but you know what…I love you x"

Wayne shared his own tribute to his wife.

Posting a gorgeous picture of them on their wedding day, as they hold onto glasses of bubbly, he said: "Happy Anniversary @coleen_rooney. 11 years today! Love you girl"

Wayne and Coleen are childhood sweethearts who married when he was at the height of his career playing for Manchester United , and she later relocated to America when he signed with Washington-based team DC United.

Lately, they've put on a united front to prove they're stronger than ever after some very public problems.
