Pumpkin carving for Halloween allows people to combine their culinary and artistic creativity. For generations, they have served as a green light for trick-or-treaters as they make their rounds on October 31. While the situation has changed somewhat this year, people can still gather and carve to their heart’s content.
How to carve a pumpkin
Pumpkin carving is a highlight of Halloween which allows people to display their creativity in an inventive way.
The tradition dates back hundreds of years to 19th century Ireland when people carved “grotesque faces” into turnips.
Now embraced by the international community, carving acts as an artistic outlet for both adults and children.
Ingredients
A pumpkin
A serrated knife
A large serving spoon
A pen
A bowl (optional)
To start, choose a large pumpkin and cut around the top of the head with the serrated knife.
Then scoop out the innards (both the seeds and fibres) and discard them.
Those who want to use pumpkin insides for a snack or meal later on should keep them inside a bowl and refrigerate them.
Afterwards, people can start drawing their design on the surface.
