Bobby Shmurda Returns With First Single Since Prison Release: "No Time For Sleep"

Bobby Shmurda has returned with his first track as a lead artist in seven years, dubbed, “No Time For Sleep.” The single, which is billed as a freestyle, marks the Brooklyn rapper’s first drop since being released from prison.

“No Time For Sleep” arrives with an accompanying music video, showcasing Shmurda rapping inside an abandoned warehouse with two armed women. With a neck draped in ice, the rapper reveals he and his accomplices are holding someone hostage in a hunt for hidden jewelry, while the track carries the plot to fruition.

Shmurda was formally released from the Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York on February 23 of this year. In 2016, he was sentenced to seven years in prison in a plea deal, which he said he had been “forced” into following a 2014 arrest.

The rapper was initially denied parole in September of last year, though the Time Allowance Committee determined that he was eligible for conditional release based on his “behavior and participation in prison programs.”

In July, Shurmda shared new music during a five-track set at Rolling Loud Miami. Aside from performing hit tracks “Hot N****” and “Bobby B****,” he played two new singles, the titles of which remain unknown.

In an interview with Desus & Mero that same month, Shmurda confirmed he has a hotly-anticipated collaboration with Migos in the works. “We got all types of different music coming out. We got the Shmurda sh*t coming out. We got the ‘Shmigos’ sh*t coming out. It’s going to be a lit summer,” he revealed. A release date for the collaborative mixtape has yet to be announced.
